# Consolidated-case propagation

This operation propagates state changes on a primary legal case onto every secondary (non-primary) case in its consolidation group, so that consolidated cases stay consistent with the primary case.

## Steps

1. Iterate `CurrentCase.Consolidations` for non-primary, secondary cases.
2. For each secondary case:
   - Load the related `clsLegalCase` via `clsLegalCase.GetLegalCase`.

   - Propagate the relevant state from the primary case, depending on which propagation method is invoked:
     - `updateConsolFileLocation` — file location
     - `updateConsolLCE` — LCE due-date/excusal state
     - `UpdateConsolCaseStatus` — case status
     - `UpdateConsolDEFFLag` — DEF-sent flag
   - Save the secondary case ([BR-LGL-012](../business-rules.md#br-lgl-012-secondary-consolidated-cases-mirror-the-primary-case-state)).

## Failure and edge-case behavior

- A case with no secondary consolidated cases: this operation performs no updates.
- Called from multiple entry points (DEF printing, DEF email, case-status/LCE/file-location changes) via the four dedicated `updateConsol*` methods, each targeting one specific piece of propagated state.
